Tips and Tricks on how to Keep your Skin Hydrated all Winter Long
If you think that dry, irritated skin is just a part of life during winter, well …..think again.
It may not seem like it, but actually there are many simple ways out. As you know that temperatures and humidity drop during the cold months of winter, giving more reasons for the skin to dry up.
I have compiled a list of simple, yet powerful ways to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized naturally during winter months.
- Keep a humidifier close to maximize moisture
Using a humidifier in your home or office will add moisture to dry winter air and help keep your skin hydrated. Run regularly a humidifier in the rooms you spend the most time in, including your bedroom.
- Avoid hot water on your face
Washing your face, directly, with hot water on your skin is very drying, especially chlorinated, hot water.
When you are showering, try to avoid hot water streaming directly on your face.
- Apply your daily cream to damp skin
I am sure that your have read somewhere that it’s highly advised to switch your morning or night moisturizer to a heavier one during winter, a heavier moisturizer will provide your skin with more hydration and protection.
After picking the right moisturizer, apply it when your skin is damp to help lock in hydration. Same rule applies to your body when you’re applying lotion.
- Stay Hydrated
Make sure you’re drinking your suggested eight glasses of water a day, which will help your skin remain hydrated. If you are not drinking enough water, try to compensate by adding warm drinks to your routine, like tea, chamomile or peppermint.
- Buy a non-soap based cleanser
Select a skin cleanser that is labeled as non-soap; milder ingredients and the least amount of fragrance and deodorants will protect your skin from irritation
- Antioxidants and omega-3
When your skin is dry, it means it is being exposed to elements that are damaging skin cells faster than your body can repair them.
Foods rich in antioxidants can minimize damage from toxins and help your body make healthy cells. Some of the foods that contribute to skin health include:
